Dearest Loyal Supporters,

As you have no doubt noticed, our ticket prices have gone from $7.00 for a grown-up ticket to $10.00 for a grown-up ticket. If I were in your shoes, I’d be a bit miffed. “What’s with the money grab? You’re not pro athletes….*grumble grumble*…pffft…as if.” Well, Friends…this one was out of our hands. “Out of your outrageously greedy paws?! Impossible!” Again, I hear you. As a not-for-profit sports league, we strive to bring the community an AFFORDABLE night out. We encourage you to bring your kids (by promising you that they won’t hear us swearing and shrieking death threats), tell your friends, and we like to keep the prices LOW so that you in turn can spend your hard-earned money on other stuff, like CCDD t-shirts and Beau’s beer. (Believe me, we know how hard it is to get that money stuff.) So why the price hike?

Enter: The City of Ottawa

In order to have these events, we have to be in possession of lots of insurance. We need to make sure players are insured, that our volunteers are insured, that the other team is insured, that you’re insured when you come watch us. We have so many insurance policies and permits, that we actually keep them in a binder, a binder that Ottawa likes to paw through before we have an event. Offsetting those costs are part of the reason there are ticket prices to begin with. Well, it would appear that despite all our efforts, all our bases were not covered. We’ve been informed by Ottawa that we need to get yet another insurance policy to make sure you’re all safe while attending our event. And that policy costs as much as some people pay in rent. And because we’re a not-for-profit organization, we’re not exactly rolling in stacked bills that we can just chuck at Ottawa to keep them happy. So, we had to raise ticket prices so that we didn’t break the bank. For real.

So, on behalf of the Capital City Derby Dolls, I’d like to apologize to all of you who’ve supported us throughout the season and I would like to sincerely apologize for the price increase. I couldn’t let it go without at least offering some kind of explanation. Your support means the world to us and we all wish we could individually thank every single person who walks through our doors, because every ticket sold helps sustain this organization. Despite higher ticket prices, we’re still keeping our beer prices down and Beau’s has no issue with us selling beer at $3.50/cup, so we can all do a victory dance there. Buy me a beer at the end of the game, and I’ll definitely dance.

I hope to see you there on Saturday, July 7th, at 7:00 p.m. when we take on Peterborough Roller Derby. It’s our last game in Kanata for the season. We’ve loved every second we’ve had with you and we’d really like to savour this one.

Hugs and shoves,

Delicate Plow’her, CCDD President
